Hiroshima - John Hersey I discovered this book in a dumpster when I was in the 7th grade. It was my first introduction to the concept of American Imperialism. Though Hersey's focus is on the stories following the dropping of the bomb, my 13 year old brain focused on the question of "why?"I never knew there was an update with the chapter on "40 years later," as my copy is a first edition cloth bound copy, much stained by days in a dumpster. It's one of the few possessions I have from my childhood, and a strange one at that.
